"I FUCKING HATE EDMONTON!"

These are the words that were spoken by a lady who had her car smashed early this past Sunday. Apparently someone in my building got away with a hit-n-run.
It was a crisp Sunday morning, the birds chirping, fresh air…and I in my shorts. I decided to get up early and get some errands done, so I decided to take out the trash and load up my bottle collection to take to the depot. On my 3rd or 4th time down the elevator I noticed a vehicle parked sideways in the corner, hood ajar and stern looks on the faces of the owners. One of the individuals was a lady whom by the expression on her face looked like she was taking the meanest dump in history. Face bright red with fury, fists clenched and pacing wildly back and forth. As I exited my building I could then hear her screaming “SOMEONE SMASHED MY FUCKING CAR!!” This alerted me and began a series of ring like tones in my ear; first from the pitch and whine of it, then due to loudness and obnoxiousness as she repeated it several times.

Now in this situation I can completely understand someone being irate. No note left apologizing for the damage, brand new car now ruined… but the next words out of her mouth really made me think, and were the inspiration for this post.

“I FUCKING HATE EDMONTON!”

I guess I was more disgusted than anything at this remark. I’m not sure if this was bellowed in the heat of rage, or if she really meant it. I was actually offended to be straight. May I also add, this shit storm of cursing also happening within direct earshot of her young daughter. I can understand the frustration of waking up only to find someone has physically damged your property, but there is a time and a place for everything and screaming obscenities around your little one probably doesn't make you look like the current nominee for "Parent of the Year Award", but rather "Jackhole Idiot Stick of the Decade" recipient.

Edmonton is known for a lot of things… “City of Champions”, World’s largest Mall, the ugly damn phallic giant baseball bat on 97th Street… but I seem to recall it not being known for assholes. By generalizing that all Edmontonians would smash a car, leave and not even report it means that you think ALL Edmontonians are assholes. This is incorrect. While we do have our fair share of less than intelligent citizens we are not all assholes.

I could sense that in the tone of her voice this is not the first time this has happened. It was either a previous incident such as this, or a similar incident thereof that pushed her over the edge to tarnish our good Capital City. This could have taken place in ANY other Canadian city, or any city for that matter. The fact that it happened here does not mean it ONLY happens here. So her statement is completely false. Even if it ONLY happened to this lady and happened on several occasions, still does not mean it only happens here. Assholes do not flock to Edmonton, they usually move around…like nomadic gypsies. They’ll pop in; do some assholery and then move on to the next town. The individual who did the deed is probably on his way to Calgary. Furthermore, there is no reason to hate. Yes, something bad did happen to you, but to wish the same or worse on someone else makes you no better than the initial culprit. We (Edmontonians) are always looking out for one another. We come together to raise awareness, to help those in need, provide a warm place to stay, offer a tissue to the cheek to stop a tear. We ARE Edmonton. We make this great city one that everyone wants to live in.

When there are people begging for money downtown, a senior citizen’s rascal is caught in a snow drift or a lonely lady by the side of the road trying to change a tire….we are there. We help because we are who we are. I know that every time I go out I am always ready to help… and sometimes those who need help are guided to me… almost as if they know I am the one who will say “Yes!” I have been in crowds of people and the one person they always go to is me. I enjoy these situations. You meet a new person, friend…or more. I hope that all of you reading this take those same strides to be a better person, to be a better Edmonton….because Edmonton is within all of us. If Edmonton is shitty and this woman hates it, she’s not from here.

Situations will always arise where we are pissed off or upset, quickly raising a hand to slap down on your knee and exclaim..”I’m MAD”…. But madness doesn’t ever last long. As long as you learn to forgive and forget, everything always turns out fine in the end. Remember that EVERYTHING in this life happens for a reason…to teach us the finer ways of life, to learn something about ourselves that we needed to learn, because that will eventually help someone else out. Not today, not tomorrow…but you will remember that day you had some toolbox slash your tires…only to discover you fell in love with the cute tech lady at Tirecraft who assisted you with your repairs. There is always a will, there is always a way, a way past the hate and intense seething rage we contain every day. Let loose friends….

I FUCKING LOVE EDMONTON!

    1. I agree! I have travelled extensively across the country and lived in several Canadian cities. If the economic situation wasn't as bad as it was I would leave this miserable, god foresaken dung heap to happily to never return again.

  3. Edmonton is a shit hole! The recession has left everyone miserable and no one cares to help each other. No idea why they call it city of Champions. .. no talent comes out of here and everyone who competes is on steroids as it is huge in this city. This is a place of rednecks and greed and on the other side, homeless and plenty of drugs. I would not recommend anyone moving here as it is truly a dump and the people make it worse.

  4. I've been here for over five years. I still hate it. Everything said in the comments is true. Lot of loser rednecks. The city council has no back bone to say no to bad developments. They'll take what they can get. I'm referring to that ugly ass emerald high rise they arrived even though they all hate it. It's so god damn boring here. Yeah there's stuff to do. But its mostly just taking walks and lane shit like that. They have the dumbest fuck idiot drivers. But a day has gone by that haven't seen an accident or really stupid driving, so stupid it still amazes me.

And the people are fake and no one gives a shot about other people.

    I fucking hate Edmonton!

  5. Edmonton is the Cancer of Canada. I hate this piece of shit city and can't wait to get the *** out for good! Nothing but crack heads and dirty drunks. Not to mention why the hell does everyone look like they were hit by a nuclear chemical blast and deformed!? Seriously I can't be the only one who notices this!? P.s. go to hell Edmonton. Go to hell.

  6. If you live in Edmonton for any length of time and you don't hate it, you're a fucking retard

  7. Why anyone would choose to move here and actually stay... even if you're from here and have alot of money. Why the hell would you stay. Been here 6 years. It still sucks as much as the day I got here. It's actually worse now because I've had six years to actually get to know the city and all the pros about it. It still sucks. I gave it a chance. DO NOT MOVE TO EDMONTON

  8. I've been here for 4 years and I like the city during the summer months and winter is not so bad, compared to Ontario where their winters are very bone chilling. The One thing Ive learned about Edmonton is the people are not very friendly or welcoming. It took me 2 years to find an edmontonion that was welcoming and friendly. That's 1 out of a 100. Alberta is only good to their people. Most people I meet are from away, not from Edmonton. I don't understand how arrogant, fake and pretentious these edmontonians are. I honestly thought for a smaller city, people would be more welcoming to the rest of us Canadians who are actually willing to work hard to make a difference. No teamwork exists for these people. They don't like to help the common person unless they get something out of it. I'm very saddened to see how many people who move here and in just a short 3 months are just dying to leave. Way to go Edmonton for your inhospitaility and arrogance. And you wonder why others things in your life don't work out.

  9. My point was she was blaming a city for her problems. It's not the cities fault your car got smashed, blame the dude who did the deed. Edmonton is not the best city in the world. I have lived in several cities and they all have their own issues. But what are you doing to make it better? Everyone has a part to play. It's easy to sit there and say "fuck this place!" but where you are or where you're from is no different.

How to stop being a turbo-cunt in 10 easy steps: A Journey of self exploration

Hey folks! I'm back again and this time with a much more personal rant.

This time....it's work related.

Now I'm not going to mention where I currently work, or where I used to work, for the obvious reasons, but the few of you out there in internet land who know me well, know exactly where I work/used to work. I suggest you take initiative on your own to avoid these companies as I myself would not purchase anything from a place of work that had the following "going's on" behind closed doors. Most companies are filled with complete B.S., and I have refused to go to places where I have been either A) Treated poorly or B) I know someone who has.

Now normally I would hold back writing about something so personal, and something so "taboo" due to fear of firing or some type of set back, but I'm really quite sick and tired of the complete bullshit that I deal with and have dealt with on a daily basis. I feel I must express these emotions before I shit…

My experience with Kijiji...

Well I know what most of you are probably thinking, that my experience with Kijiji was terrible, and you'd be right, but it did enlighten me somewhat, so I will gladly share it with you.

First let me just give you an overview of the ads. They're all pretty much more or less the same, albeit from a few that are in the wrong place, i.e. FREE does not mean "Take over my contract" for a cell phone. So there should be some mitigating factors put in place and a keen common sense in order to weed out the phonies. (No pun intended).

Let me also point out that most of the ads are completely terrible. There are no pictures of the items people are selling and if there are, 9 out of 10 times, it's a stock photo from some website which is not a direct representation of the items they're selling.... May I make some suggestions to those of you out there selling on Kijiji?

A) First of all, take the time to take GOOD pictures of what you are selling. The better the picture, t…
